1WORLD Translation & Interpreting is led by Carolina Cannard, a French-Greek interpreter, translator and researcher based in New Zealand.
Although Carolina was born in France, she grew up in Greece and was raised bilingual. Her love of languages grew further once she picked up her first English novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. She recalls reading the series as a teen in Athens, stopping after every few sentences to look up words in her *paper* dictionary (no Google translate back then!).
Many books later, Carolina found herself first in Paris and later in Montpellier, where she graduated from the University of Paul-Valéry Montpellier III in what she always enjoyed exploring: languages!
In New Zealand, Carolina works as a translator and a NAATI CI Certified interpreter in various high-stake settings: she is a Court interpreter approved by the Ministry of Justice (MOJ), a member of NZSTI (New Zealand Society of Translators and Interpreters), a member of AUSIT (Australian Institute of Interpreters & Translators) and a simultaneous conference interpreter and founding member of SiNZ (Simultaneous Interpreters of New Zealand).
A recent PhD graduate from Auckland University of Technology, Carolina's doctoral research explored the struggles of language barrier for refugee women and their experiences with interpreters in New Zealand. You can read her thesis online: "She was my voice": Lived Experiences of Refugee Women of Reproductive Age With Interpreters During Resettlement in New Zealand.
Although she specialises in French & Greek, Carolina collaborates with trusted colleagues in languages such as Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German, Russian and more! In 2022 she decided it was time to step up her freelance game and created 1World Translation & Interpreting. She is very happy to welcome you to her website!
